Joey Stanger started his survey career in 1973 in the heart of the east Texas oil fields. The oldest of four brothers, Joey attended Tyler
Junior College and received his surveying license from the State of Texas on August 21, 1979. For the next 8 years he worked with other
young east Texas surveyors primarily on oil & gas related projects. He started Stanger Surveying Company on April 29, 1987 with only one
In 1990, fresh out of high school, Shane Neally went to work for Stanger Surveying as a rodman, while attending surveying classes at Tyler
Junior College, where he eventually became a licensed surveyor working his way from the field into the office.
Preston Maxfield let the flip of a coin decide if he would go into surveying or petroleum technology. He started
work for a local surveying company within a month of Joey Stanger, where the two gained tremendous respect for the others abilities and work
ethic. As Stanger Surveying Company grew, Maxfield came on board along with many others Joey Stanger had worked with in the early
The company reorganized in 2007 becoming Stanger Surveying Tyler, LLC, where Joey Stanger remained President, Shane Neally became
partner and Vice President of Administration along side partner, Preston Maxfield, Director of Operations.
Stanger now has over 150 employees, including 12 RPLS in the office covering three states across the southern United States. Several of
these surveyors are currently getting licensed in 10 other states.
